Michael Avram, has been involved in the jewelry industry since 1971.  He became a founding member of the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) with the dream of educating and promoting colored gemstones to the jewelry industry and general public.  The latter dream has not only been realized, but has even exceeded all original expectations.  It should also be noted that in 1983 Michael received an award for His outstanding work as chairman of the AGTA membership committee.  In addition, during that same time period he also served on the AGTA Board of Directors.  Currently, he is serving on the board and thoroughly involved with the continuous growth and policy making of the association.  Moreover, he played a significant and crucial role in the effort to discredit the very dangerous allegations that confronted the Tanzanite industry (See Gemstones & Pearls/News).  In order to demonstrate the true fallacy of such allegations Gemtech will issue a dealer warranty with each Tanzanite purchase. 

Early in his career he supplied Gemtech clients with the finest of rubies, sapphires, and emeralds.  In addition, he created what is known as Trillium, the new shape of corundum and the LoveHearts.  Later, in 1984, utilizing the Trillium, he was awarded first and second place with the Spectrum Award in the Gemstone/Jewelry Design competition with the AGTA.  During the following years he was a pioneer in marketing Tanzanite to the industry.
